Most AEC firms don't have a data problem because they lack tools. They have one because they have too many, each doing its job well in isolation and none of them talking to each other. A firm running a separate BIM platform, estimation tool, and procurement system loses hours every week just moving data between them by hand. BIM Digital Integration is the work of connecting a firm's BIM models, estimation and quantity takeoff data, and procurement or project management systems into a single, structured Common Data Environment, so information entered once flows everywhere it's needed instead of being re-keyed in every tool that touches it. It doesn't replace the software a firm already uses. It's the layer that gets that software talking to itself: your Revit model, your estimation platform, and your CDE working from the same current data set rather than three separate exports someone has to reconcile by hand.
A quantity takeoff gets pulled from the model, exported to a spreadsheet, and re-entered into an estimation tool by hand. By the time a change order hits the model, the estimate is already out of date, and nobody flagged it.
Procurement works from a materials list that was accurate the week it was pulled, not the week an order actually gets placed, because there's no live connection back to the model that's still evolving.
